Diagnosis
One or more of the following diagnostic tests may be ordered, depending on your medical condition:
- Blood tests to assess your general state of well-being.
- Pathology tests to help establish the nature and cause of a disease.
- Imaging techniques such as X-ray, CT-scan, and MRI to provide images of internal organs and establish the exact stage of any disease.
- Biopsy to obtain a small sample of tissue or fluid containing a suspicious growth within the body to be examined in the laboratory.
- Nerve conduction studies to measure how well and how quickly nerves send electrical signals to the muscles.
Preparation for Treatment
- Dr. Sathu will review the results of your diagnostic tests and discuss the best treatment options available for you. Your treatment may involve medications, surgery, or therapy, the details of which will be explained to you.
- Inform Dr. Sathu of any medications you are taking, particularly blood-thinners, as there are some you may need to stop taking prior to treatment.
- Discuss any medical conditions you have had that could interfere with treatment.
- Inform Dr. Sathu whether you are allergic to any medications or to anaesthesia.
- You may be advised to stop smoking, limit alcohol intake, lose weight or follow a certain diet, depending on your condition.
Treatment Options
The treatment plan includes the standard of medical care for your disease or condition.
Dr. Sathu may prescribe certain medications to help reduce pain and any associated symptoms. Multivitamins and minerals may be prescribed. Treatment may involve minimally invasive surgical procedures (with a small incision), or open surgery to treat major health issues and trauma. Some patients may require blood transfusion.
Certain conditions may also require complementary treatments such as acupuncture, massage therapy and diet modification.
Rehabilitation
Dr Sathu may suggest rehabilitation, a treatment method designed to facilitate recovery after a serious injury, illness or surgery. This is aimed at restoring physical, sensory, intellectual, psychological and social functions. A rehabilitation program often includes stretching and bending exercises, massage, stability exercises, physiotherapy, heat therapy, and cognitive or communication exercises.
Follow-up Care
Regular follow-up with Dr. Sathu after treatment is necessary to assess your emotional and physical well-being. Regular follow-up can minimise complications related to treatment. The results of the treatment will be discussed. Blood tests may also be performed to ensure that you achieve and maintain optimal health.
